15 Days until Mid Tour

I just finished up my last workout for the year.  All in all it's been a pretty good year.  I'm looking forward to 2013 and getting life back to normal this summer in Las Vegas.  My main goal for this coming year is to run 100 miles per month.  I want to stay realistic with my goals this year and I think that's a feasible goal.  My aspiration is to run the Las Vegas Marathon next December.  If I focus on my mileage and getting prepared to run that marathon then my weight will come down, I will have to eat better, and everything will have to come together for me to make the cut off of 4:30.  We will see.  Those are my personal goals.

Heather and I wrote down some goals we would like to work on as a family:
Spiritual- Attend the temple once a month
Personal- Date night once a month
Health- Cook at home 6 nights a week (Sat. will be free day)
Family- FHE/ Family night weekly
Financial- SAVE MONEY!!!

19 Days until Mid Tour

Well I skipped a day yesterday like a big fatty but I'm over it and moving on.  I was back in the gym today to get my run in.  For some reason sitting in the truck driving all day really takes my energy away.  And we spend a lot of time in that stupid truck!  Well I'm finally in the teens until I get to come home for a visit.  I can't wait.  Until then, I'll keep myself busy running and lifting.  Until next time...

Well Christmas came and went without incident.  I'm glad that this day is behind me because it's hard being away from my family.  I look forward to January when I can spend some time with my family.  That's my late Christmas present.  I did get in my workout today even though I tried super hard not to go work out.  I basically watched movies all day until 730PM and finally dragged my fat butt to the gym.  Better late than never I guess.  Until next time...

Well I got run Christmas Eve run in early.  I think that's the best way to do it because if I don't go early I seem to always talk myself out of working out on my days off.  Anyways, I'm trying to get through these next two days as quick as possible.  I'm ready for January!

25 Days until Mid Tour

Well Friday is here and it's the 21st and the world didn't end AGAIN.  The one thing that did happen today is snow fell.  I was told that it normally snows in Daegu twice a year.  Most of the time it's freezing rain or rain.  Well we're not even through December and this is the THIRD time it's snowed.  It looks like it will be a very wet winter here in South Korea.  I'm heading into a 4 day weekend and Christmas is right around the corner.  I'm looking forward to having it over with so I'm that much closer to being home with my family in January.  Not too much time left before mid tour.  I'm keeping myself as busy as I can to help time go by faster.  I don't think I've ever been this excited for January.

Come on January!

Well today was Korean election day so all the local nationals were off from work.  This means we had nothing to do today since we are solely here for surveillance on the local nationals.  So we went to Costco to pick up a few things for our POL Christmas luncheon this Friday.  It was a pretty relaxed day.  I got in a pretty good run today and I would have enjoyed it a lot more if I didn't almost freeze to death walking back and forth from my dorm room to the gym.  I can't wait for it to warm up again.  Until next time...

Well another day is in the books and we also did our last set of rail cars for the year.  That is awesome because MSgt Fry and I almost froze to death!  It never got above 32° and that's not including the windchill that made it feel like 18° the entire time.  While I was sitting on top of the rail cars trying to think warm thoughts, I've came to realize how happy I am about going to Vegas.  I like the heat and Vegas has plenty of that.  I got in my daily run which even though I'm trying to build back up to running for an hour straight, and it sucks some times; I'm always happy when I finish.  JUST RUN!!!

29 Days until Mid Tour

Well we've been on the road for the past two weeks and I really didn't feel like lugging around my lap top all over South Korea.  So I haven't posted in a while.  Well hopefully, I'm back for a little while so I can get things back to some sort of normalcy.  We will see how that works out.  I'm still trying to figure out how to deal with the cold.  It is slow going!  I got in a run this afternoon which wasn't the best.  It's been awhile since I've did an hour straight.  I've really gotten used to splitting my runs up into two 30 minute sessions.  I guess as long as I get it in is what truly counts.  Until next time...

43 Days until Mid Tour

Today was cold and windy.  I feel I'm in for a rude awakening this winter.  I see a lot of treadmill running in my future if I don't freeze to death on the walk over to the gym from my dorm.  I know it's only the beginning of December BUT I'm ready for this month to be over with already!  December is a very family oriented month and it sucks being away.  But it is what it is and I will make it through.

I got in a pretty good run today.  I need to stick with running and knock back the weight lifting.  For some reason everytime I decide to focus more on lifting I gain weight back super fast.  And it's not muscle, it's fat.  With my body type I know I need heavy doses of cardio to keep my weight down.  I won't quit lifting but I'm going back to my heavy cardio schedule with my "runner" lifting program three days a week.  So I'm back to running 6 days a week with 3 days lifting.

Why do I work out?
What keeps me motivated to work out?
Do I like being fat?
Why do I eat like I do?
Why am I lazy?
Why do I keep sabotaging myself with FOOD after I work so hard to get to a decent weight?

Just some of the questions running through my head this morning as I stepped on the scale.  All I can do is shake my head and have these questions constantly searing themselves into my brain.  Very disappointed today.

48 Days until Mid Tour

Well after the cold burned off this morning it was actually a very pleasant day outside.  Which is good because we spent a lot of today walking around outside.  December is looking like it will pass by in a blur which will be awesome.  We have a ton of things scheduled to fill our days next month.  I hope it turns out to go by as fast as it looks like it will.  I got in two pretty good workouts today.  I didn't get to finish my cardio/weight session at lunch so after I ran tonight I had to finish my workout.  For some reason I always try my hardest to talk myself out of working out at night.  I guess it's just the inner fatty trying to rebel.  I just need to get my butt out that door and be consistent about it.  So far, so good.

49 Days until Mid Tour

Well I broke into the 40's until I get to go home and spend some quality time with my family.  First things first, I need November to hurry up and get over.  I'm doing my best to stay busy so time will go by as quick as possible.  I am a little frustrated with my eating habits but I have no one to blame but myself.  I eat way too many processed foods.  The down side is I can't keep fresh fruits and veggies in my dorm for longer than 3 days and I don't have access to the commissary (no vehicle) but every other week.  Oh well, I just need to be consistent with my fitness and when I get back home I can tighten up my diet.  There's always a mountain to climb isn't there...

Today is a non weight day.  Since I screwed up my schedule this last week, I decided to make today just a cardio today and do better with sticking to my schedule next week.  We will see how that goes.  It was a rough run today so I dialed it back and did what I could do for my hour.  It was definitely better than sitting in my room, on my couch doing nothing.  I'm looking for ways to stay motivated and positive during this holiday season.

53 Days until Mid Tour

Well Thanksgiving has come and gone.  I'm glad another major holiday is out of the way for me here at Daegu.  One more major holiday and then shortly after I will be home for mid tour.  I can't wait.  It's hard to keep my self busy and motivated right now.  All I want to do is sit on my couch, watch movies and eat myself into January.  BUT that won't help me with my fitness goals and it won't make my time go by any faster.  As a matter of fact it will probably make time go slower.  Anyways I hit the gym today because I could walk.  I haven't did anything the past two days because I blasted my legs on Leg Day this past Tuesday.  When am I going to learn not to do that.  Probably never!

Long Run Today...

I headed down to MSgt Fry's apartment and Fry, Bradley, and I went for a long run down by the river so we could have an awesome Traveler's cheeseburger later on that day.  MSgt Fry and I got in a total of 16.84 miles as MSgt Bradley burned out around 8 miles and went back to his apartment.  I was a little concerned because I haven't did longer distance runs for quite awhile but it was easier than I thought.  Maybe I will look at doing my first marathon in Las Vegas next December.  I have to be able to run it in under 4:30.  That is the cutoff now for that marathon.  Seems like an achievable goal.  Until next time.

A Laid Back Day...

Well I didn't take the day totally off.  I did head over to the gym this morning...  in the cold...  and hopped on the treadmill.  Everything started out fine but about 6 minutes into my run my hamstrings felt kinda funny.  I thought I might be on the verge of pulling something so I knocked it off and walked the rest of the 30 minutes.  I decided I would give myself the afternoon off after spending all day down at Gimhae and give my body a little time to relax.  I will try it again in the morning and see how things feel and go from there.  I'm planning a long run on Saturday with MSgt's Fry and Bradley.  Possibly a 12 miler.  Until next time...

PT Test Day

It arrived and like normal I had nothing to worry about.  I don't think I'll ever get used to taking my PT test.  I guess it keeps me on my toes.

Waist: 38"
Push Ups: 47
Sit Ups: 54
Run: 10:23

I won't have to test again until October 2013 at Nellis.  I took the night off and celebrated with some chili cheese fries and a hot dog.  Tomorrow I'm back in the gym.

VERY RELIEVED AND HAPPY TODAY!!!

Nothing Fancy... (245 lbs)

Nothing fancy today.  Ran in the morning and lifted weights in the evening.  I got over to the gym a little later than I wanted to because I was watching Hawaii Five-0.  By the time I got done lifting it was dark and a little chilly outside so I skipped my evening run.  I'm fine with that since I ran in the morning and lifted at night.  I need to try to drop 6 lbs before 10 October, my test day.  I would like to be in the 230's on test day.  I think that is an achievable goal.  After my PT test, if everything goes as planned, then I will start shooting for my 220's goal before I come home in January.  Also another achievable goal.  One step at a time.  Until next time.

P.S.- Broncos suck!!!

Quick Post...

Been slacking over the weekend and I was a little afraid to hop on the scale this morning.  So I did a killer leg workout today to make up for the laziness.  I'm looking to get back on the fitness train this week.  Typhoon Sanba is outta here and I HOPE that is the last one for the year.  Only time will tell.  I'll get back to the detailed posts tomorrow.  I just don't have it in me tonight to type everything out.

STAY FOCUSED!!!

HIT 230s BEFORE YOU TEST!!!

Thursday, September 13, 2012

240.2 lbs.

I'm so close to being into the 230's.  Unfortunately I had to dial it back a notch tonight for my cardio.  My weight lifting took a lot out of me so instead of running I went for a 30 minute walk.  I think my body needed that break from all that heavy running the last couple of days.  The positive thing I took away from tonight's jaunt is I still went out there and did some type of cardio even if it was extremely low impact.  Something is better than nothing.  I guess we'll see what the scale says in the morning and if I'm still in the 240's then I will keep pushing until I'm NOT in the 240's anymore.

FOCUSED!!!

241.2 lbs.

Well another day in the books and glad that it's over with.  I've been up since 0330 because I couldn't sleep.  And today was rail car day so that didn't help any.  I have to say for being up so long I feel pretty good.  Good enough to run the base perimeter non-stop of the first time.  I was pretty stoked about that.  Tomorrow I be back to the weights once again.  I think I'm starting to get into the swing of things with this workout plan I've came up with.  I hope it brings great results and I blow my PT test out of the water.  JUST RUN!!!

244.8 lbs.

Well today is September 11th.  This morning we had a formation at the flag pole to remember the horrible events 11 years ago today.  That fateful morning I remember standing in the BX food court with my other brother Tim Libey watching the TV as the first plane struck the first tower and subsequently watching the 2nd tower get struck as so forth.  But the thing I'm most grateful for that day was my new wife was heading to the airport that morning to join me at Aviano.  I'm very thankful that she wasn't in the air when everything happened.  For everything that happened that day I can honestly say that I am proud to be an American fighting for OUR way of life.  Not many can say they've done what I've done and continue to do.  I don't consider myself a hero but I'm very grateful to be part of something bigger than myself and protect the freedoms of those I love.  Unlike 11 years ago, TODAY was a great day!  I'M PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN!!

I also got to participate in the 9/11 memorial run/walk that took place all day today.  I ran for the last hour of the event and it's pretty awesome to see the American flag, along with the Korean flag side by side making the rounds, around the track.  Great event and greater people that made this happen today.

247.8 lbs.

Until further notice I will begin posting my weight in the post heading.  I need to pay better attention to my weight and what better way than to see if every time I'm about to post.  With my PT test more than likely less than a month away I need to really buckle down and see if I can drop into the 230's before I test next month.  I know I'll either test the 2nd or 4th Wednesday of October so at least I have a little foresight as to when it will happen.  I got in a good workout today and I don't see me going anywhere in the near future which is good.  I hope to gain a little stability before I have to test and I can better control what I put into my mouth here at home as apposed to on the road.  FOCUS!!!

Weights hurt so good!!!

Well my 2nd day of weight training and I'm starting to feel the soreness.  It doesn't matter how light you go, when you start lifting again the soreness finds you no matter what.  I just need to work my way through it and I'll be fine.  I'm back in Daegu after a short over night trip to Gwangju.  Hopefully things will go a little smoother down there and they'll get that tank prepared to be cleaned.  It was a good day for working out.  I did what I planned to do and I need to hit it hard this month to prepare for my test next month.  My new slogan for this month: JUST PASS BABY!!

September Start Weight: 249 lbs.

Well after a week off because of a typhoon, tropical storm, & running ALL over Korea, I'm back at it again.  I was quite relieved that I only put back on 4 lbs.  Now the NEW goal is to hit the 230's before my PT test next month.  I'm cutting back on the running a little bit and throwing in some weight lifting this month.  I want to switch it up some what and keep my body guessing.  I'm looking forward to having a solid, hopefully fast month.

In Daegu for the Weekend...

Well I'm back in Daegu for the weekend and then it's back to Gwangju from Monday through Thursday.  We might have to come back after filling tank trucks on Wednesday and then head up to Suwon on Thursday.  There's a lot of things going on right now and they have us running around like crazy!!!  As long as I get my "stress relief aka running" in then I'm fine with whatever.  I thought this year would be a nice break away from POL but I'm sadly mistaken.  It's chaos personified!  Oh well, enough complaining.  We had a quick trip down to Gimhae today.  It rained all day and the word on the street is there's a typhoon headed our way.  I just can't get away from those things...

Gwangju...

Well we're in Gwangju for the night trying to figure out this nightmare of getting things straight so they can start cleaning the tanks up here.  What a headache!  And the funny thing is, it's not our problem but they're looking to us to sort out this mess.  Oh well, as long as they keep paying me to travel all over this craphole I'm fine with it.  I got in my runs today so that's a plus.  We head back to Daegu tomorrow.  Fun Korean times...

A Hot Rail Car Day...

Well it was rail car Tuesday and for the most part it was myself and Mr. Kim today.  By the time we finished setting up I was drenched and I think that worried Mr. Kim.  He kept feeding me water bottles because I think he thought I would kill over at any moment.  Little does he know that I'm a sweater!  We got through it without me killing over and on top of that I got in both of my runs today.  It's the little things that matter...

I'm Back...

I kind of got burned out last week.  My "sickness" was visiting last week and the sun was kicking my butt.  Everytime I ate I felt naucious and all I wanted to do was sleep.  I cut back the running last week and I'm feeling better this week.  I think my evening runs need to be a little later when it's not so hot.  That is what I did tonight and it was pleasant outside.  I'm down to 69 miles to go for my 200 mile goal and I want to hit it.  I don't think I'll ever do it again so I want to achieve it this ONE time.

Turn & Burn to Gimhae...

Well we did a quick trip down to Gimhae to deal with the fuel issue with the Army.  It turned out to be a pretty good trip.  The best part about going down there is eating at the ROKAF chow hall where we can get spicy chicken, yaki mandu, and rice.  That should show on the scale tomorrow!  I have to do inspections quarterly so I went ahead and knocked it out while I was there.  The bad thing is I'm known as the FORCE guy so I'm always tasked to take care of problems with the FORCE equipment since I'm the only one here who has ever worked with it.  I'll have to go down early next month to work out their issues because I'm booked for the rest of this month.  At least staying busy helps the time go quicker.

Happy Rail Car Day!

Well it was another exciting day doing rail cars...  Well maybe not exciting but we did rail cars nonetheless.  I'm glad that it didn't rain on us during our time over at the rail header.  With all the climbing up and down the rail cars, my run this afternoon was a struggle.  I got through it but it was like running through mud.  I'm half way to my monthly goal of 200 miles.  I think that once I get this goal out of the way I don't think I want to do this ever again.  It's too much but I want to do it once.  Kind of like the way I feel about running a full marathon.  It's too much but I want to do one.  Oh well.  Tomorrow I have to head down to Gimhae for the day.  The Army is down there messing stuff up so we need to go figure out what they're doing.  Should make my afternoon run a stress reliever run after dealing with those clowns.  STAY POSITIVE!!

A Rough Start to the Week...

Well it was a rough start to the week.  I felt like I didn't take a day off and I've been running non-stop.  So I slowed it down a little bit and will take it easy the next couple of days.  By easy I mean still getting in at least 7.4 miles a day.  Also I ran in the rain two times today.  It was a very WET day.  I thought I would get through my evening run without any rain falling but the last 15 minutes the heavens opened up and soaked me.  Now I have 2 wet pairs of shoes.  It should be a fun day tomorrow.  I'm almost half way to my monthly goal.  I'm stoked about that.  STAY FOCUSED!!

Another Week in the Books

Well I just finished another week in Daegu and I'm already ready to get another one started.  I want time to go FASTER!!!  It was a pretty good week for me exercise wise.  And it was a pretty quick week work wise.  I like when we travel to the COB's because it helps the weeks fly by.  We have a couple trips planned for the second half of August so it should help the month go pretty fast...  I hope!  I'm looking forward to my day off tomorrow.  The Sunday goal is not to take in too many calories.  Easier said than done!

Finally, Rain!!!

Well it seems like it's been forever since it last rain.  BUT this afternoon the heavens finally opened up and it rained during my run.  I was happy when it started to pour because I was dragging during my run and then the rain started and I got energized!  I love when that happens.  One more day of running and then I'm looking forward to my off day.  I don't think I'll go biking tomorrow.  My knee is feeling kinda funky so I think I'll do some light running and call it good.  I'm trying to listen to my body more.  The locals bought us Costco pizza for lunch and they made me eat WAY too much.  The scale will probably be mean to me tomorrow.  Oh well...

Happy Birthday Mom!!  I hope you are having a wonderful time on your mini vacation.  I hope you had a wonderful day.  Love you tons and I can't wait to see you guys again!

Well we're here in Gwangju for the night and being in this place always seems to ruin my diet.  There's something to this place having the BEST food in Korea because IT IS GOOD!!  We stayed local (close to the base) and went down to our favorite beef and leaf restaurant.  It's mostly vegetables and very good steak.  I just need to keep running crazy miles while I'm here and the damage shouldn't be too bad.  Good thing we're headed back to Daegu tomorrow so I can get back on track.  I got in two good runs today but my body was feeling it during my long run.  KEEP IT GOING!!!

Rail Car Day...

It was another day filling rail cars and that means hot and sweaty.  Even though we were 90°+ today it didn't feel that bad outside.  There was a nice breeze for most of the time we were out there and I didn't have to break down this time which is always nice!  Tomorrow we head to Gwangju for an over night visit.  Traveling makes my weeks go quicker and I'm thankful for that.  I had to switch out my Nike+ because the old sensor was finally going out.  This one should last me until I come home in January.  That means I actually got in 3 runs today because I had to calibrate the sensor to 1 mile.  Always nice to get in some extra mileage even though my body wouldn't agree with me.  JUST RUN!!!

Start of Another Busy Week...

Well it's the beginning of a semi busy week for me.  Today was my lazy day with not much to do.  Tuesday it's rail cars, Wednesday we head up to Gwangju, Thursday pre- tank cleaning meeting and back down to Daegu, AND Friday NCOPEC course for most of the day.  It should be a pretty quick week for me.  And most likely a loooong bike ride on Saturday.  The best way to not go crazy is stay busy and I think I'm doing pretty good in that department.  Today was run base perimeter day.  Good times...

Happy Anniversary Heather!!!

Today is my 11th Anniversary for Heather and I.  I miss her and the girls terribly and I look forward to when Korea will be behind us and we can be together again.  I'm truly blessed to have them in my life.

Well, today is Saturday and that means finding things to make the day go fast.  I'm not a big fan of weekends here because I get to spend a lot of time by myself and that sucks.  So I normally hang out with MSgt Fry on the weekends and that means bike riding, hiking, or something else outside.  I got in my normal morning run but on Saturday its turned into our ride the river day.  We got in roughly 31 miles today in the blistering heat and humidity.  Not too bad for a work out day.  I'm looking forward to my recovery day tomorrow...

Back in Daegu for the Weekend...

Well after a quick trip up to Suwon & Osan we are back in Daegu.  We headed up to Osan to say goodbye to one of the guys we work with at 7th Air Force.  It wouldn't have been so bad if Osan Communications would do their jobs and fix the Internet up at Suwon.  It's frustrating but nothing we can do about it.  So this post will cover the last couple of days.  I got in my two runs yesterday and two more runs today.  I'm taking it easy and getting in walk breaks during my runs so I don't burn out or hurt myself.  I want to be smart about this 200 miles.  I really don't mind staying at Suwon because the Army is there and they have a Chow Hall that's pretty good and cheap.  It's fairly close to our billeting there and the gym is close too.  So not a bad set up when we go up there.

Well I'm at the end of another month and the rest can't go quick enough until I'm home.  But I'll take the little things and be grateful that July is over with.  It was a pretty good running month for me.  And I guess a pretty good weight loss month for me even though I yo-yo'ed quite a bit.  I look to improve on that next month and get down to business.  I will be starting my count down once again until my PT test.  LET'S GO!!!

New Week...

Well it's the start of a new week and I hit the ground running... and walking.  I'm looking to double up my running this week and hopefully all next month.  I'm looking to put in some crazy mileage next month but I'll save that for the 1st of August post.  You know, for the Air Force being so focused on fitness the cardio room here at Daegu SUCKS, SUCKS, SUCKS!!!  We have 4 treadmills and 2 of them have been broke since I've been here.  And they always say, "we're working on getting them fixed".  Well guess what, they suck at their jobs because they haven't fixed crap!!  So what did I do instead, I ran/walked the perimeter of the base again in the blazing heat!  What's the best thing that happened today?  My new shoes arrived!  I'm super excited about that.  When I get paid on the 1st I will order my second pair so I should be good for a little while.

The Weekend...

Well it's Saturday and I'm glad it's the weekend.  I went with MSgt's Fry & Bradley to ride the river.  It was a good time but it kicked my butt.  I haven't rode that much in a while and it killed my backside.  We put in 50+ kilometers and it was hot today.  When I got home I checked the temperature and it was 95° but it felt like 103°.  I was wiped out for the rest of the day.  I totally planned on running this evening but that didn't happen.  I look forward to putting in a good week next week.  I'm ready to start August.

Well we were supposed to head back to Daegu BUT things didn't turn out that way.  We had a lot of work that suddenly came up here so we should be able to head back home tomorrow...maybe?  Anyways, this morning I got my first taste of Cross Fit and that stuff is nasty.  MSgt Fry loves it but no one will do it with him here so I gave it a go.  That stuff is ridiculous and I'm sure we started out with an easy one.  I'm sore from head to toe this week which tells me I need to step up my exercise so more.

Well it's back at it after a recovery day yesterday.  I tried to kick my own butt today and I think I did a pretty good job.  One more day and another week will be in the books.  Working out makes this time go so much faster for me and I definitely need the distraction.  I'm happy that I broke the century mark with my mileage today.  It's been a while since I've done that so I feel good about it.  Now it's time to keep it going.  Push, push, push!!!

Insanity Day 9 of 60

Well I seem to be going the wrong way with my weight which is quite discouraging.  I guess I just need to stay focused and work through it.  I need to fix my diet still.  I am switching my workout around a little.  I run in the morning and I will run and do Insanity at night.  Maybe that will help me take it easy on what I eat at night.  We will try it out.

Insanity Day 6 of 60

Well since I was off today it was tough finding the motivation to leave my dorm room and get my workouts in.  I did it, but it wasn't easy finding that energy.  I hope as the weeks go on and I stick with it it will get easier.  I bet seeing the results will be motivation enough to get my fat butt out the door!

Insanity Day 5 of 60

Well this morning I was tired and it showed during my Insanity workout.  It was supposed to be high intensity cardio but my legs were two wet logs.  I did my best and got a pretty good sweat out of it but I was a little disappointed overall.  I will do better next week.  I made up for it on the track with intervals and felt good about my morning workout when I was finished.  This evening I got to run in the rain which felt nice.  One more day and then it's rest day!  Hooray!!

Insanity Day 4 of 60

Well apparently there's a lot of jumping in Insanity and my calves and achilles tendons are killing me!  Well maybe not killing me but I'm very aware that they're there.  On top of working out, today was rail car day and it was hot outside.  Yesterday had me thinking that we might be filling rail cars in the rain BUT Mother Nature has a pretty good sense of humor and made it extra hot and humid today.  Anyhow, we got through it and we push on to Friday...

Insanity Day 1 of 60

I finally got my hands on Insanity.  I started today and we will see what happens.  I will do the 60 day challenge and see what I can do with it.  I can't stop running on the side though.  I ran the base perimeter tonight.  I was bored and I was feeling guilt for eating some Doritos and a quesadilla.  So I took to the road tonight and hopefully burned it off.  As for Insanity, I did the Fit Test today and it kicked my butt.  For anyone who has tried Insanity you know what I'm talking about.  It should be an interesting 60 days.

Day 4 of 84

Well today we attempted to hike up mount Apsan this morning.  We got about half way before we had to turn back because of HEAVY rain.  Our dirt trail we were following up the side of the mountain quickly turned into a small river.  We were soaked head to toe.  AND there's nothing like a mountain hike to prove just how out of shape I really am.  But what do you expect when you go straight up the side of a mountain!!!  We might try again on Saturday.

Day 3 of 84 (Happy Independence Day)

Well today was a no lifting day but I'm keeping up with the cardio 6 days a week.  Since it was a no lifting day I did 2 sets of 30 minute runs.  It seemed to work out pretty good.  I could of did it all this morning but I think with breaking it up like that it keeps my metabolism running a little faster through out the day.  Also we walked down to the So-moon market and then over to the Samsung Lions baseball park.  I would say we walked 4+ miles today and it was HOT!!!  So I'm a little tired today.  Tomorrow we are going for a hike up Apsen mountain behind Camp Walker (Army).  That should kill my legs.  We are heading out early so I will need to get up EXTRA early so I can get my 30 minute run in before we leave.  Good times...

Day 2 of 84

Running after leg day is not the best.  I toughed my way through it and knocked out today's workouts.  I think this first little while will be an inner struggle to stick with it.  Today especially, because we loaded rail cars all day in +90° heat.  And like a BIG dummy I didn't have any sun block so I'm a little burnt.  I think breaking up my cardio into 3 smaller sessions really works for me.  On my non-lifting days I will only do two 30 minute cardio sessions so I still get in my 6 miles for the day.  I just need to be smart about working out and eat and drink how I know I should and I will be fine.

Day 1 of 84

Well today starts my new program.  I found it on Bodybuilding.com.  It seems like a pretty good program that shouldn't be too hard to follow.  I'm not using the supplements/basic eating plan.  Just the workouts.  It seems like he only does cardio on leg days BUT I'm looking to crank that up a little bit and do it 6 days a week.  We will see how it goes.  My word for the next 3 months is COMMITMENT.

Well I've ran the past two days but I didn't get around to posting yesterday.  But I'm trying not to be lazy today and post.  This is going to take a lot of determination on my end because of all the traveling we are doing.  I would like to run in the morning and run/lift in the afternoon.  I will have to figure things out.

At Gwangju for a couple of days...

Well I am back at it once again after the soreness has finally went away (somewhat).  Well I can move and it doesn't feel like I'm falling off a cliff every time I step off a curb.  I got in a short run today after we arrived at Gwangju.  I also got in some legs after my run.  I am looking into starting a program I found off of Bodybuilding.com the first week of July.  It goes for 12 weeks and I am going to see what I can do with it.

Suwon Work Out...

Well we are up at Suwon tonight doing some inspections.  The good thing is there is a lot of Army up here so they have a pretty decent gym.  It's nice to get away from Daegu for the simple fact that we get to do a little work.  It seems when we are at Daegu we really don't do much of anything.  I am pretty sore from lifting so I am trying to make the best of my workouts until the soreness goes away.  I've had to cut my running way down because I don't have it in me to go longer until this soreness lets up.  We are back to Daegu tomorrow and I don't think I will get a workout in tomorrow unless it's late.  The nice thing is we are taking gym equipment that doesn't get used up here back to Daegu so we can utilize it better at the POL shop.  We are taking a Life Fitness treadmill down there tomorrow.  I'm pretty stoked about it.  We will see how the day/night goes tomorrow with my workout.  Until next time.

Leg Day...

Well the traveling finally caught up with me and I am getting a cold.  It sucks but there's nothing I can do about it so I won't complain about it.  We are headed up to Suwon tomorrow and I hope they have a decent gym up there so I can continue on.  Since it was a leg day today I didn't run this morning.  I went ahead and did 30 minutes of cardio after I lifted.  Maybe when I get in the swing of things and my body feels used to lifting a little more I will go ahead and run in the morning again.  But for now, I will only run after my lower body workouts (Tuesday and Thursday).

Well I got in my second workout this evening even though my laziness was screaming for me NOT to go.  Anyways I got over there and knocked out my evening workout.  Nothing too intense but I'm sure I'll be sore from it.  I just need to stick with it and work through the soreness and I will be fine.

It's Korea Time...

Well no time like the present to get to work working out.  I gave myself a day to catch up on a little sleep, now I am good to go.  I went for a little run on the treadmill this morning to see where I was at physically and I should kick myself for taking a month off BUT there is nothing I can do about it.  So looking forward I know where I need to go.  I got in 5.21 miles and I am happy about that.  I will probably stick to the treadmill for this first month until I get a little mileage base going again.  I am starting out at 265 lbs once again and that's all I have to say about that.  Once again it's time to get things headed back in the right direction.  The count down to my PT test in October is on.  I need a 90% this time so I don't have to worry about it again until I get to Nellis.  JUST RUN...

4 More Okinawan Wake Ups...

Well it's May and the humidity is finally here in Okinawa once again.  It is killer outside!!  Almost all of my out processing is complete.  I have to check on a couple more things tomorrow but I'm pretty much ready for my final out on Thursday.  I am ready for this to be over with.  It has been drawn out.  Plus we are all anxious to get back to Utah and see family.  The girls aren't that excited to travel by airplane but they'll be fine once we get underway.  The good thing is we only have one stop in Tokyo before we head off to Seattle.  Normally the rotator stops in Iwakuni but not this time.  So I am thankful for that.  I got in 5.62 sweaty miles tonight.  I think we're in for a huge weather shock once we get back to the states.  It should be eye opening!!!

Just a quick post tonight.  I have the PT test jitters so I decided to kill those jitters with a 2nd run tonight.  It felt really good and I hope that it doesn't come back to bite me in the butt tomorrow.  I am looking for a PASS but a 90% would be amazing.  I guess we'll see tomorrow.  I got in 5.7 miles tonight which makes 11.48 miles for today.  Good stuff!  See ya on the flip side...

Well we have finally arrived to PT Test Eve.  It's the day before the test and today I'm trying to expend as little energy as possible NOW that my run is in the books for the day.  It is also less than two weeks before we leave Okinawa.  Time is getting short and there is still a ton to do as far as out processing the base is concerned.  I will get that taken care of but it seems like a lot at the moment.  Fingers crossed that tomorrow goes well.  As long as the waist measurement is favorable, the rest of the test will take care of itself.  JUST PASS!!!

Down to the Wire...

Well today ends my running week and starts the dreaded PT test week.  Just one more day and then it's my PT test.  I think I've done enough to pass and I am looking forward to having it over with for a little while.  I want to be able to enjoy my time in Utah and not worry about taking another PT test in 120 days instead of 180 day or 1 year.  I wouldn't be able to enjoy the foods I've been away from for so long BUT then again maybe that's a good thing.  Anyways time will tell on Tuesday.  As for right now though, it's work, work, work.  I got in 5.67 miles today.  It will be soups and salads today and tomorrow.  Fun, fun!!

A Nice Run in the Rain...

I had a very nice run in the rain tonight.  So much so that I didn't need my headphones for my whole run.  I mean I was running in a torrential down pour BUT I truly enjoyed my run tonight.  I was soaked to the bone by the time I got home but it was worth it.  We got our main shipment out of the house on Friday.  I am glad that is done and we are getting ever closer to moving.  I have my PT test coming up on Tuesday and of course I am nervous about it.  I always am.  I hope my time in Korea will be a huge pay off and I'll never have to worry about my weight again.  I got in 5.84 "soaked" miles tonight.  Good times...

Shot M-4 Today...

Well today was my first time shooting the M-4.  It's pretty much the same as shooting the M-16 but lighter and smaller in size.  That was an all day class and we were in the new and improved weapons training class.  So that meant we were guinea pigs for the Security Forces.  We did a lot more movement training instead of shooting from prone (supported & unsupported), kneeling, and standing positions.  It was a good time except we were in full body armor while we were shooting.  So I was soaked by the end of the day.  And that's where my less than stellar run came into play.  I swear I was running against the wind the entire run!!!  My legs were jello after shooting today BUT I got my run in.  I got in 5.81 miles.  Until next time...

I'm under a week away from the dreaded PT test.  I am doing everything in my power to make sure I pass this thing.  I hope by this time next week my life will be smooth sailing with my passed PT test under my belt and my Port Call notification in hand.  Life will be good if things go as planned.  We are getting so close to coming home that this move is starting to feel a little more real.  The housing office came by to do their pre-inspection and the moving company came by to estimate our shipment.  They come to pack our house out on Friday and then come again next Wednesday to ship my stuff to Korea.  We're almost there.  I got in 5.71 miles tonight.

No Rest for the Fatty...

Well since I will be taking Sunday and Monday off next week to rest before my PT test next Tuesday, I thought I would put in some miles tonight.  I will run through next Saturday and hopefully I will be under 250 lbs. for my PT test.  Only time will tell and I have my diet planned out until my PT test.  We went to the aquarium for the last time today.  It was a rainy day but we had to make it up there one last time.  I'm not sure we will have a car come next weekend so we needed to get that one last trip in.  It is really getting close to us leaving and it's starting to feel real now.  I hope to have a good week.  I got in 5.56 miles tonight.  JUST RUN!!!

Closer and Closer...

Well we are three weeks away from leaving Okinawa.  Time is moving right along and it is almost crunch time for almost everything left here to do here in Okinawa.  These next few weeks should fly right by.  We had a pretty good day today.  We are trying to sell Heather's car at the moment and have a couple people interested in it.  So we hope that that takes care of itself and we will be car free by the end of the week.  One of Heather's friends loaned us their car until we leave so we are psyched about that.  One less thing to worry about.  I got the rest of the deck ripped apart and moved to the curb today.  Yes, I am a procrastinator because I was supposed to do it yesterday.  So that made my run this evening extra special.  That and the sushi that we ate.  It was a slow and steady run tonight, but I got it in.  I ran 5.84 miles tonight and I'm looking forward to having a great week before my PT test on the 24th.  JUST RUN!!!

2nd Run in Less than 8 hours...

Well I had to do a little finagling with my running schedule.  I have to do some house work this afternoon and I wouldn't feel like getting in my run after working all day, then coming home and doing my house chores, and then go for a run.  I decided I would knock it out this morning which was a little tough because I haven't ran that close together in a while.  But I got it knocked out and now I can focus on what I have to do today.  I got in 5.87 miles this morning and my legs weren't happy about running two runs that close together.  Onward and upward...

A Good Run Tonight...

Well after the body shut down on my yesterday and all I wanted to do was sleep, it was good to go out tonight and get in a good run.  I think I over did it with breaking down our deck in record speed so the ninja house painters could set up the scaffolding around our house, dragging 30 cinder blocks to the curb so the garage ninjas can take them away, and then running 6 miles that night did me in.  Yesterday I couldn't keep my eyes open from the time I walked in the door.  I think I had a bout with my good ole friend Gilbert's.  Today I feel much better and rejuvenated.  I got in 5.54 miles tonight and I am looking to run in the morning tomorrow so I can drag the rest of the bigger half of the deck to the curb before bulk trash pick up on Saturday morning.  I don't think I would feel much like running after doing that tomorrow afternoon.  I need to keep focused because my PT test is right around the corner!!!  STAY FOCUSED!!!
