Totals for 31 Jan 2011
Well I weighed in at 273 this morning before my PT test. The test portion went very well. I hit everything I was shooting for, 11:42 mile and a half, 50 push-ups, & 50 sit ups (both in 1 minute). Now for the bad news, I have a 41 inch waist and the minimum allowed is a 39 inch waist which means automatic failure. It is hard to get on board taking the PT test when you find out in the beginning that you have already failed. BUT I needed to perform really well to show that I am in shape & can blow the test out of the water, which I did. Now I moved on to the Fat Boy Program and I will improve and do even better on my next PT test in 42 days. I hope to be 20 lbs lighter in 6 weeks when I test again. Well today I got in 8.57 total miles and I burned a total of 1,606 calories. This week in gut check time because I am sticking with my 10K a day and then hitting the Fitness Improvement Class after I am finished running. I should be dead by the end of the week but that much fitness should bring the results I need. I guess we will see. My totals for January were less than stellar but I will continue to improve on my numbers as this year progresses. I got in a total of 80.29 miles and I lost 6.2 lbs since the beginning of the year. That needs to improve dramatically!! Until next time...

New Shoes Coming My Way Soon!

Well with tax season upon us it's time to get some new shoes. Since this is the only time I can really splurge on a few new pairs of shoes. I normally only get two but this time a third pair was half off so why the heck not. Plus I got the green light from the boss (Heather) to go ahead and order an extra pair. I think she looks at it as I won't have to probably order new shoes until this summer. I guess we will see. They are all Pearl Izumi's cause I don't run in anything else. I have been hooked on them ever since I tried my first pair and I will never go back to anything else. From left to right they are SyncroFuel ($84), IsoShift ($120), & SyncroPace ($70). I can't wait to order these badboys and get them here because my other two pairs of Pearl's are just about crushed. It's been a relaxing day today and I am looking forward to starting it back up tomorrow morning with my PT test. Even though I don't think I'll pass, it'll give me a good jumping off point to see where I need to be in 42 days. JUST BRING IT!!!

Totals for 29 Jan 2011 & the Week
I almost talked myself out of working out today. There is something about Saturday's that really makes me not want to work out. It might have something to do with not working and just wanting to be lazy all weekend to recuperate from the week. I need to get out of that mindset and hit Saturday's hard! Well I did go to the gym for my run today because it is still nasty and cold outside here. I can't wait for it to get a little better outside so I can start doing my Saturday run outside. Anyways, I got a little longer run in today although it wasn't a 10+ but I think I will have to build up to that gradually. I got in 7.3 miles and I burned 1,486 treadmill calories. Not a bad workout and I could have did a little more but with my Fit Test coming on Monday I thought that was good for today. My totals for the week were 38.94 miles and I burned 7,934 calories this week. I am looking forward to my day off tomorrow. A whole lot of rest and relaxation. I guess we'll see what Monday brings. Until next time...

Totals for 27 & 28 Jan 2011
Well for some reason I forgot to post yesterday. I must have been extremely tired. I didn't realize that I forgot to post until I just looked at my blog today. Well at least I got my runs in yesterday and today which gives me five for the week. Just one more day left to go. I am glad that I could make it through an entire week with heavy mileage (well heavy for me anyways). Yesterday I got in 6.3 miles and I burned 1,280 treadmill calories. Today's run felt a little better than yesterdays run, that's for sure. I got in 6.45 miles today and I burned 1,332 treadmill calories. I almost talked myself out of going today because it is gloomy, dreary, and nasty rainy. But my inner skinny guy kicked me in the butt and got me to the gym. I need to keep this up and make it a daily habit. Next week will be interesting if I fail my PT test. I should get some serious exercise in for the next 42 days if that happens. I will run right after work, then hit the Fitness Improvement Program or FIP (Fat Boy Class). I should drop some serious weight and jump start my fitness. Either way I think of it as a win, win. JUST RUN.

Totals for 26 Jan 2011
Well today's run didn't go as good as yesterdays run but it was still productive. My legs gave out on me around the 5.5 mile point and I had to finish my cardio with a nice cool down walk. I was happy about my run today though. I felt like I pushed myself harder than I did yesterday and it showed when I couldn't keep the pace the entire session. I just need to keep it going and eventually I will get there. I got in 6.3 miles and I burned 1,275 treadmill calories. COMMITMENT. I need to keep it going. Until next time...

Totals for 25 Jan 2011
Well another day in the books and my run today turned out to be a pretty good one. It might have had something to do with the Lipo-6 that I took today to help with the energy/ fat burning. Needless to say that I felt energized during my workout. I am still trying to adjust to waking up at 4 AM but I am sure that I will feel more comfortable with it as time progresses. I hope to start riding my bike to work when I know that I don't have extra things to do. I am excited about that. Anyways, I got in 6.55 miles and burned 1,355 treadmill calories today. Hopefully tomorrows run will feel just as good. Until next time...

Totals for 24 Jan 2011
Well the Base Exercise is finally over and a week of not running is finally behind me. It's time to get back on schedule and get moving. I didn't weigh in this morning but I am probably hovering around 280 lbs once again. I guess we will see tomorrow morning. I am getting used to my new schedule of waking up at 4 AM which is a hurdle all in itself. I just need to figure things out and make it work of me. I got in 6.04 miles and burned 1,206 treadmill calories. It was a good first day back which was nice because I had to push myself to break the 6 mile mark which I barely accomplished. It is a start in the right direction none the less. I need to throw together a good running week because my PT test is next week which isn't looking good because I measured at a 43" waist. And I need a minimum of a 39.5" waist to pass. It looks like I will end up on the fat boy program once again but that is probably the motivation that I need to get going. There is nothing like MANDATORY motivation. Heather has talked me into doing Weight Watchers starting the 1st of February. Plus I was wondering if anyone would like to join me with a contest sponsored by Bodybuilding.com. I was thinking of starting on the 31st of January. Even if nothing comes out of it, it seems like a pretty good motivation tool. Let me know if anyone is interested. Well that's enough jibber jabber. Until next time...

Exercise, Exercise, Exercise
Exercise, exercise, exercise...and not the good kind. Nothing is happening this week for me besides the Phase II exercise we have going on at the base. Gotta love the 12-14 hour shifts, so that is my life until this week is over. I look forward to getting back on track next week. Until next time...

Happy Birthday Billy!
First off Happy Birthday big brother, I hope your day is amazing.
It turned out to be a pretty good workout day today. I did half of my workout outside on the track once again in the misty rain. For some reason I love running in the rain, it is energizing. It feels like I have a strained left hamstring and I need to pay closer attention to it so I don't pull it and have to rest. That wouldn't be good. I need to stretch it out better after a quick warm up and I need the old man Icy Hot to help loosen it up. That should do the trick. I guess we will see tomorrow if it works. The second half of the workout was up in the cardio room on the treadmill. After running outside it sure is hot up in the cardio room. But I can endure it for 30-40 minutes. I got in 7.16 miles, burned 1,223 calories, and it took me around 78 minutes. I just need to focus on tomorrows workout and not think about the rest of the week. One day at a time. I kept the eating under control today which is great. I weighed in at 276.2 lbs. this morning which is an improvement. I need to get out of the 270's soon. Until next time...

Commitment
When the annual New Year's resolutions hit the Nordell house here in Okinawa I decided I would pass because resolutions are stupid. That was until last week happened and I didn't come close to the week I started out to have. Then the resolutions talk I had with Heather came ringing back to me loud and clear with what she said her New Year's resolution was "Commitment". I love you Heather for this epiphany. This past weekend I thought about this word a lot and decided it made perfect sense for a new year. Commitment to not only fitness but everything in my life needs a kick in the pants. And as I stare a new year in the face dreading ending it like I did this past year (280 lbs again with NO motivation anywhere in sight), a renewed focus and commitment is exactly what I need to find my inner drive. Just a little example of how I put it into play tonight was during my final 30 minutes working out I really wanted to walk. I had the energy to finish my run running but the chubby guy in me wanted to walk. So I took my finger and wrote commit on the treadmill in front of me in sweat so I wouldn't give up and finish strong. And that is exactly what I did and I am better for it. It is time to get the laziness out of my life and get out of my mid-career/ life funk. It's time to get healthy and get a renewed focus on my health, career, spirituality, etc. Commitment can apply to every facet of my life. I want to do everything better this year. That is the goal and the resolution that I have. I am having Heather make some stencils of the word commitment and put them on the front door so I see it every time I walk out of the house to remind me of what I need to do and who I need to be. BE BETTER!!
Today I weighed in at 280 lbs. and I am starting over and doing it right this time. No turning back and returning to this weight ever again. I got in 10.05 miles and I burned 2,083 calories. I think the calories are obviously high but I burned a lot of calories today which is what I should be doing every day. I was better about what I ate today. I need to have all my focus and attention on that. It is priority #1!! That alone will help me with my weight loss goals. It is time to get right and get focused and the important things in life and get off of cruise control! TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR LIFE, JUST LIVE!!!!

Totals for 05 Jan 2011
Well after my "day off" yesterday I was back at it today and it took maximum effort. I don't know when I will get it through my thick head that taking days off always set me back. Oh well, it's over and done with and I have moved on. I weighed in at 273.8 lbs. this morning. I little more than the day before but that has to do with my eating crap and not working out. Do you see a pattern forming here? You would think I would but obviously I'm oblivious to it. Tonight I got in 6.41 miles and I burned 1,270 treadmill calories. Three more running days this week and I want to break 30 miles this week. If I run all three days that shouldn't be a problem. JUST RUN.

Totals for 03 Jan 2011
Alright it's time to get busy and make this a habit once again. I want to run the Naha Marathon in December and my whole year will be building up to that. That's my goal for this year, well that and getting down close to 200 lbs. I would be happy under 220 lbs. I weighed in at 275 lbs. this morning so I have a lot of work to do. I got in two runs today. One at PT this morning and another after work. The nice thing about the two runs was the first one was outside with some hill work (which two guys I ran with threw up afterwards) and the second was some speed work at the gym on the treadmill. I got in 9.16 miles and I burned 1,316 calories. I think I burned more but as long as I got over 1,000 calories I am happy. As always I am a little nervous about my PT test at the end of the month so the next 28 days are going to be full throttle to see how much weight I can burn before then. JUST RUN!!
