Running Totals for 14 May 09

If you have ever ran on a treadmill you know that it is not the most exciting thing in the world. All you are is running in place and if you don't have a television to keep you company a run can feel like forever. Although for me right now, I am very grateful that the "gym" here has two televisions to help me get through my runs. I am really enjoying my runs at the moment because the NBA Playoffs are going on during my runs. So I get to watch some amazing basketball while I run in place for an hour. When the games get more intense I find myself running at a faster pace and sometimes I lose my focus and run into the front of the treadmill, which brings me back to reality and reminds me that I am not playing in the game. I kind of dread when the playoffs are over and all I have to watch is baseball which I love but everyone knows that it is not a fast pace game.

Anyways today I ran 5.71 miles, burned 1179 calories, and I went for 65 minutes. I could of ran more and I wanted to which is a good thing BUT my knee is still bothering me and I don't want to over do it right now. Plus I promised Heather I would take it easy today so I didn't run over 6 miles today (but then again I didn't stop at 5 miles like I told her I would...oooppss!). I hope everyone is doing good and that things are going good for you. I love you all. Until next time...

Hi my boy, I am really proud of what you are doing with your running. I'm glad you have TV to keep your mind occupied. Be careful with your knee though. I think your dad is looking forward to the Ogden Marathon. Well I love you and miss you. Be safe....Your momma

I sure wish I could run with you. Darn marathon anyway. Almost here and then the recovery. I have been busy here at work with taking care of the big yard and trying to get the basketball league going. I at least have that to occupy my time. I'm not doing any workouts this week, save everything for Saturday. Will write tomorrow. love ya dad

I should have read what you wrote before I post anything. I am kind of leaning your direction. I think I need to get the weight off. I know I said that I was going to lift weigths to try and keep some of my muscle but, I think that if we run, do a bunch of push-ups and set-ups we can get in pretty good shape. That would help you with your test and both of us with our running (core muscles). Still keep some definition in our arms. Weight training can come later. love ya dad

I think that you are right, that running for the time being is good enough exercise. I think making running a habit right now is more than enough. I don't want to burn myself out and do too much too quick. So I think I will just stick with the running and in a couple more weeks once my body gets used to the exercise I will start doing some core exercises like push ups and sit ups. And I am taking care of my knee. I really want to run farther but I know I need to take it easy right now and give myself some time to adjust to the running. Especially since I am this heavy again. I hope everything is going good for you two and that you are excited for the Marathon this weekend. It should be a good time and I hope the time off really helps. Love you both...
